This is one of the most important bibliographies of articles compiled by Chinese scholars since 1949. It has three sections (bian). The first includes to volumes (juan) with over 30,000 historical articles selected from more than 1,300 journals, periodicals and newspapers published between 1900 and 1937 in China. The second section (also in two volumes) includes over 30,000 historical articles published between 1937-1949. The third section (3 volumes) includes more than 40,000 historical articles published in China (including Hong Kong and Taiwan) between 1949-1976. It is arranged according to a pattern generally accepted within China: begins with Marxist historical theory and method, then in turn general history (historical periodization, dynastic system, cultural legacy, and capitalist sprouts), dynastic history, minority history, peasant uprising history, diplomatic history, evaluation of historical figures and their biographies, archaeology and material culture (vol.1); topical history: economic, political, military, social life and problem, thought, religion, culture and education, language, literature, art, science, historical geography, local history, and historiography (vol.2). Articles published during Cultural Revolution are grouped into a separate part and arranged according to their dates of publication. (vol.3).
